WVU Student Insurance Office Privacy Statement

West Virginia University takes our students’ privacy and information security very seriously and intends to fully comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Accordingly, you should expect that information provided to the WVU Student Insurance Office, including individual insurance information, is confidential and used for the sole purposes of determining eligibility and proof of insurance. Protected health information will not be disclosed for any other purposes without written consent. The WVU Student Insurance Office will NOT provide your information to external parties.

Additionally, per the University’s FERPA procedures, students must grant access to a parent or guest using the Parent/Guest Portal before University staff may discuss a student’s authorized records. Student Insurance Office staff may not disclose any student’s personal information without this specific consent.
